Making Time for Kids

My students need 22 individual year-long subscriptions to the current events magazine known as Time For Kids.

I teach a 2nd grade class of students on all levels. Some students can barely read and others read well above grade level. They come from all walks of life and many of them are from families that live month to month. About 1/3 of my classroom are ESOL (which mean they come from homes with 2nd languages) and 3 of my students are in the Exceptional Education program.

My students come to me with varied interests. One thing I have found that they all have in common is an interest in current events. They love to know what is going on in the world around them and enjoy the puzzles and activities that come along with the magazine. Many of my students do not have books to read at home so these magazines (written on a 2nd grade level) give them something, that is on or near their reading level, to have in their homes.

I have used these magazines for many years and absolutely love everything about them. My students have cut pictures from them to use in projects. They have used information from the magazines as a resource for reports. I have seen students read the same magazine over and over again because - "They LOVED it!". What better resource can ANY classroom have than this magazine! In addition to current events and news of the world, the company includes a subscription to "Around the World" which are 6 separate issues about various countries around the world. Through these magazines, my students can learn about countries they many never get to visit ... or that even *I* may never get to visit.

By providing the magazines for my students, you will be giving them a YEAR'S worth of reading material. You will be providing them with current events that are important to their lives. YOU will be providing them with resources they can use on their projects and reports that are assigned throughout the year. For less than the cost of a Value Meal at McDonald's, 1 child can be provided with access to - THE WORLD! Please give to this project and give my kids the world! THANK YOU for your support!
