Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Although I am the fourth grade teacher at this K-12 public charter school in Indiana, I have also been asked to be the varsity cheerleading coach for the 2009-2010 school year. Our boys' basketball team just lost in their first sectional appearance, and I am convinced that, had we had a varsity cheerleading team at the time, we would have gone all the way!

While conditioning and prepping for try-outs in April, my cheerleaders are very ambitious and bold in their tumbling abilities. However, we do not have the equipment to allow for difficult moves and gymnastics. We need one large tumbling mat in order to strengthen our cheerleading squad's ambitions, as well as keep the girls safe.

The best way to solve our problem is to help us purchase one large tumbling mat. This mat will not only be used for cheerleading, it will also be used for future squads, gym class, and possibly even other athletic sports. My cheerleaders have the desire to learn more, but I need your help to teach them with the safest way possible.

This not only is my first year as a teacher, but also my first year as a cheerleading coach. I want these girls to have the opportunities that I had in a suburban school district, brought home in our inner-city environment. Our dreams and goals are to win a cheerleading tournament, but we cannot accomplish this without the proper equipment, of which a tumbling mat is the first important item to help with our skills. Please give us our school spirit so that we can show 'em what we've got!
