Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Science & Engineering Students can be CHEERLEADERS TOO! Welcome All! We are a new, high-need (low-income), FREE, charter school primarily focusing on Science & Engineering. We currently serve grades 6th through 11th grade, and hopefully have Pre-K through 12th grade this upcoming '09-'10 school year. I currently teach Spanish I grades 7th through 11th, and sponsor the 1st cheer/dance team at our school. The squad consists of 10 middle school and 7 high school students. Our students are very intelligent and have a lot of enthusiasm & leadership aspects.

However, our team does not have dance uniforms, megaphones, audio equipment for MUSIC, or BUTCHER PAPER for signs/banners. We have had many fundraisers, but that money went towards the girls' cheerleading uniform, poms, and traveling expenses to and from the games (we do not have a field so ALL games are AWAY...FAR AWAY)...and it must come out of our cheer/dance fund. Our cheerleaders have previously performed at football games to music heard from our school laptop. *Note: Crowd did not hear ANYTHING of the song, but cheered for the team regardless.

I know that with the simple fact of obtaining a karaoke machine (or audio system with loud speakers), our girls will be given a wonderful opportunity to experience a great feeling of success and create lifelong memories.

Your assistance will most definitely ensure that my students learn valuable lessons, and help them grow through teamwork, leadership and commitment. Thank you for your time and consideration!
