Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a high-poverty, high ESL population, high-needs middle school in a semi-rural community.

My students do not have access to books or technology in their homes, and unfortunaltey we do not have many of these things at our school either due to lack of funding. They are also huge fans of going green in our community, which doesn't even offer recycling as a curbside service! If the kids want to make a difference in their community, I need to help them research ideas on how to accomplish having a "green community" before it's too late. Our school is a fantastic place to start! Carl Hiassen teaches the importance of recycling, re-using, and re-giving to the community that you live in!

With a document camera I can provide access to many research materials and ideas with one copy, instead of printing 170 copies for each! This is just one way my students can begin our quest for going "green". The document camera will provide more kids with information instantly, on all topics discussed in this project as well as many others. With Carl's books, my kids can have factional information on how kids their own age can help save our planet. Our kids our the future....and they care about what they will have left!

With your help my students can start making a difference in their lives, their community, and our planet. Their education should not be limited to the lack of technology and resources available to them. You will make it possible to provide these students with instant information and technology that will ensure the 21st Century Learning skills they will need to become productive members of our society! Our students are our future.
