The Birth of America is the unit focus in our 7th Grade Reading Class in a Title 1 (high needs) school.

BORING!! That's what young adults think of early American History. Getting through to students that history is exciting and relevant is a trying experience.

The selected historical fiction novel, Johnny Tremain, will bring to life the Revolutionary War and the people who were instrumental in Boston during this time. This Newberry award winning novel illustrates the feelings of a young person much like themselves, as well as the historical period leading up to the formation of the United States.

Making history relevant to students will be helpful in developing their academics, as well as the impact of good citizenship and the importance of personal responsibility in their communities.
