Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in a multi-racial, ethnic, social-economic school in Florida. It is an exciting school that beats to the drum of many nations, colors and styles trying to be one.

Young people from all over that have lived in the United States whether it be for one year or all their life have been influenced by the HIP HOP CULTURE. This book has peaked the interest of my students and can help bond each of these different cultures with a POSITIVE message. We lack many resources and modern books are certainly not prevalent on our shelves.

My students need 35 copies of "Hip Hop High School" for a class set. I have used this book to read aloud to my students and quoted from it for reflective journals and with their limited exposure to this literature it has already impacted my students lives. They have connected with the main character, Theresa who "tells in her own hip-hop-flava'd voice how she comes from behind to go up against one of the baddest monsters of High School-the SAT-and wins." I want my students to WIN in LIFE and in their ACADEMICS and believe this book can be one tool to inspire and motivate them to do so.

The greatest gift we can give to this Hip Hop generation is a POWERFUL message of HOPE. SUCCESS and PRODUCTIVITY comes from planting the first seeds of HOPE, watering it with DEDICATION and VALUES and it produces a BEAUTIFUL generation. YOU hold the water hose in your hand, will you give us water? Please help provide the tools we NEED to survive in this HIP HOP WORLD!
