Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Lets send the 1st and 2nd graders on a ride on a magical musical carpet. I teach elementary and middle school music in a very diverse inner city school.

The music room is supplied with desks that other teachers don't want. Some of the desks are flip top desks and are dangerous for my 1st and 2nd graders. The other desks are just too high for the little students to sit at comfortably. Therefore the students have to sit on the cold tile floor. This is uncomfortable for many of the students, and many don't like doing it because they have new clothes on and don't want to get their clothes dirty.

I need a big area rug for the students to sit on. The music rug will also help students recognize and identify the different musical symbols and instruments. The rug will also be used for different musical games, such as music twister.

The earlier the students can recognize and identify musical symbols, terms and instruments, the faster and easier they can achieve their musical dreams. Also with musical abilities, students often will succeed in many of the other academic areas.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
