I, along with another music teacher, are in charge of the music classes for the whole campus. Our student population consists of 3rd and 4th graders whom we see in a two-day period. We serve over 700 students for these two grades.

To satisfy mastering the TEKS for music, we are required to compose musical notations and music that incorporates basic rhythmic patterns in simple meters. We have been doing this on a very limited basis and need a more sophisticated way to put it on music-lined paper. The Sibelius software we are requesting will address that need. Once the software is loaded onto our computer, we will be able to transcribe the student's work from the computer to a printed copy of their created music.

We currently do not have software for our computer that will write music. Each student is required to create rhythms and melodies and read them as well. The Sibelius software is a wonderful program that will allow us to take what the students create and print it out for everyone to read. We will utilize it with individuals as well as class projects. Already we have had students bring us compositions for the recorder unit, but we are having to hand transcribe it for student use. This program will do that for us and it will be a better and easier copy for the students to use!

The software program will bring music composition to our students in a fun and innovative way. With your help, the students on my East TX campus will be able to properly create and enjoy the music that they will compose. I appreciate you considering this project as it will touch many lives year after year.
