I am a school psychologist at an urban Pre-K through 5th grade elementary school in North Carolina. Seventy-six percent of our children fall within the free or reduced lunch income level. Last year, 39.6% of our students met their proficiency goals and we did not make Adequate Yearly Progress, the standard set for schools by the No Child Left Behind Act. Often our children resort to bullying to get their needs met. They harass other children, call them names, and use intimidation or extortion. The victims of these bullies suffer low self-esteem and rarely stand up for themselves. The materials I've selected will assist bullies and their victims in learning new ways to cope with uncomfortable situations. Materials will be used during individual or small group counseling, class room guidance lessons or read during our closed circuit news broadcast. The number of children who will benefit from these resources is innumerable.
