I am a first year pre-kindergarten teacher in an inner city school. The school is located in a high-need area. The children range in age from 3 years to 5 years old. They are energetic, excited, and eager to learn.

We are a new program within this school. I am located in a basement and shared school supplies are difficult to access. Some supplies have been ordered and most needed supplies have been arriving slowly. Televisions that are available within the school are from the 1970s and 80s. They are not compatible for DVDs and most VCRs.

A television that can accept DVD cables and VCR cables would be a great way to bring our books in the classroom to life. I am working to enhance their joy of reading through author studies. I feel that the students would benefit through seeing, hearing, and experiencing books and their favorite authors through the use of movies, documentaries, and shows. I would also like to connect familiar characters and animated friends to the curriculum with current DVDs.

My students would embrace the use of movies and shows to enhance their understanding of various themes within the curriculum. They would also love the opportunity to have fun, celebrate, and acknowledge authors of their favorite books. A DVD compatible television would be a wonderful addition to our classroom.
