Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an adaptive art specialist who works with emotionally disturbed/behaviorally disabled (EBD) students within art. These middle school boy's are from low income backgrounds within a large urban setting.

This project will provide team-building opportunities for emotionally disturbed behaviorally disabled (EBD) students within art. The students will design and paint mini murals on the art room storage cabinet doors. By using this high interest project and combining behavioral management techniques of Restorative Justice and Love and Logic the students will learn techniques to manage their own behavior while creating the murals. The students will read about specific artist and learn about their techniques and styles. They will then choose an artist to create their own mini mural reflecting a similar style of art within their own mini mural.

I currently have all the tools and resources necessary to complete this project with the exception of the mural paint. We will learn to mix secondary colors from the three primary colors as well as adding a little "glitz" by using metallic paints. The students will benefit from this project by learning about different styles in art, how to use various painting techniques and gain much needed skills in managing their own behaviors.

Your help will ensure that these students will be given the opportunity to have a positive impact on their environment, as well as have the chance to learn behavior management skills that will hopefully follow them into the community and throughout their lives.
