I teach band and choir in a public school setting to students in grades six through twelve. I have a growing, but completely non-funded band program at my middle school.

My band students enjoy playing music they are familiar with from movies, musicals, pop music, music from the radio, television and more. The only music I have in my library is for full band. There is a major need to create a library of solo music for students.

I need to create a library of solo music for band students of every instrument. I'd like to create a system for students to check out the books just like a school library. The majority of the music books I am trying to get for the classroom come complete with an audio CD for the students to play along with at home. This will motivate the student to practice at home. The benefits are endless in this endeavor. We will serve to meet several of our national music education standards such as "playing a varied repertoire of music, alone or with others;" and "listening to and discussing a varied repertoire of music." The more music the students listen to and perform, the more diversified they will become.

Your help will ensure that my students become well-rounded musicians. You will make it possible for the students to learn to appreciate music from all genres. Your help is going to make a big difference for not only the 150 current students, but a difference to band students in years to come!
