My students are excited to learn about life! I teach fifth grade in a large city public school system where resources are very limited. I don't want these limitations to hold my students back from learning about the important people who have shaped history.

Because of our lack of funds it can be difficult to maintain a well stocked classroom library. My students are inundated with "role-models" via the media. But I don't feel that these teenage rock stars are where they should be looking to find inspiration for their lives. They need books, exciting books, that detail the accomplishments of famous groundbreaking figures from history.

I have asked for a set of picture books that detail the lives of these famous people and others. Students will be able to read about each person and be given the opportunity to discuss how their contributions have directly affected their lives and their freedom. They will become interested in science and politics, and become inspired by people who are truly worth the title of "Role Model."

Please help me flood my classroom library with books about these famous people so that my students set higher standards for themselves than having cute hair or becoming the next "High School Musical" star. They need these quality picture books to teach and inspire them that life is about so much more than what they see on TV.
