I teach 2nd grade in a charter school in a coal mining community where the mines are being closed down. I team-teach Language Arts, Spelling and Reading. I teach two classes of 2nd graders Language Arts and Spelling, and a reading class which consists of 1st and 2nd grade students who are working on a low second grade reading level.

At this time I have 1 dictionary and no thesauruses to teach Language Arts and reading. The school I teach at is a charter school in a coal mining community with a school population of predominantly low income students.

If I had dictionaries and Thesauruses, I could teach my students how to use various sources to find words they are working with and to learn definitions of those words of the words they are reading.

The donation of these books will help ensure that my students will be able to use the resources they need to understand their use and better there chances of getting higher scores on their CRT tests as well as help prepare them for the obstacles they will face in higher grades
