Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My fifth grade students are in need of physical education equipment. There are not many parks in our area, and the areas that we have are gang infested and not safe for the children to play in. Therefore, school is the only place where many of them can exercise.

With the recent budget cuts in the California School Districts, we will not have any funds to buy physical education equipment for several years. The supplies we do have are very worn, and extremely limited. Many students just sit around at recess because they are tired of the limited games available. Whenever new games and activities are introduced, students naturally jump at the opportunity to participate.

Our playground has a volleyball court and poles, just no net or balls. With a new net and volleyballs, students will be able to learn the skills during physical education class, then continue playing through recess time. This increase in exercise will not only improve their immediate health, but will develop skills and confidence that can be used on middle school and high school teams.

Your generous help will ensure that many students can get the most out of their active time at school. Without these opportunities, many students would never get the chance to improve their health, and in turn, improve their future. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.
