Show me your answers! I teach math students in grades 5 through 8. Our school is in a high poverty area. I keep all of my student supplies at their desk. I teach all levels of learners from special education to gifted. I teach about 130 students throughout the day.

I love response from my students....but it gets a little noisy in my classroom when they all respond at once. When I ask for a class response a lot of students answer what everyone else is answering out loud. I don't know if it is their answer or they just heard someone say it beside them. It is difficult for students to come to my board and work in front of the classroom because the desk are on steps (similar to some college classrooms). Add in 30 backpacks and it is difficult to get up and down my steps without causing problems.

Since all of my classes have to share my classroom desk I just leave the supplies in a box in their desk. This is where I plan to store the boards and markers for each student to have easy access. To avoid the noisy responses at once, my students will write their answers on the dry erase board. They will turn their boards around for me to see their answers. I could evaluate their responses quickly and quietly. Cheating would be more difficult because they show me their answers, not their neighbors' answers. Since they all love to write on my board, I think they would be more likely to do their work if they are going to get to write their answers and show their work on their own board.
