My students need a microwave oven, toaster oven, and pitcher to work on functional living skills.

I provide occupational therapy services at a Title One school (>65% poverty). One of my classes consists of 8 students with moderate mental disabilities and some of the children also have physical disabilities.

Our supply funds are very limited, so I'm asking for your help to provide these wonderful students with a few items that we need for the classroom. Part of the moderate mental disabilities curriculum is to learn functional daily living skills. Simple cooking activities would help these kids become more independent as well as work on other skills including fine motor, math, and reading. Something as simple as opening a can of soup, pouring it in a bowl, and putting it in the microwave is a challenge for these kids. Imagine the sense of accomplishment when they learn these basic living skills.

Because our funding is very limited, our supplies/equipment is very limited. The few items that we do have are quite old and not in good working order.

Having a new microwave, toaster oven, and pitcher will provide many opportunities for these kids to cook and become more independent in the process. By funding this proposal, you will undoubtedly provide many smiles to these special kids' faces!!
