Ready, Set, Read!

My students need 20 books/book sets to increase the classroom library. Many items are sets, increasing the classroom library by 56 books in total, all of which were requested by the school library or students in my class and were found to be out of stock or not carried by the library.

I teach special education english and academic support classes for a at risk high school in Arizona. The school is a title one school that is extremal over crowded. Teachers typically share rooms throughout the day and the average class size is over 35 students.

My students are low readers who have limited access to books that interest them. Twilight has quickly become the most popular book on campus the the library does not stock it. All of the books on the list have been reported by students as being out of stock or are not carried by the school library or the junior college library they may also order from. The local library is inaccessible for many students given that students are bussed in in some cases and live more than an hour from town.

More than 50 books will be added to the classroom library if this grant is funded. The books are all from the children's or teen section at Barnes and Noble. These books were requested by my students, they are not books I expect them to read but books they would like to read. Twilight has begun an interest in vampires and thought their are number of teen books about this topic my school library does not carry these books or carries on copy only. Books that interest my students that are written at a teen/young adult level would allow them to read and increase their reading level.

My students want to read but giving a struggling reader a classic or adult book as found in the library does not work. Please help these young minds find books that they will find pleasure in. Their interests differ greatly from my own so the students have complied the list of requested books by first checking to see if the book is available locally through the school library or junior college library. These are books my students want to read but can not get through the normal channels.
