Sharpening Minds… and Pencils

My students with special needs need 6 electric pencil sharpeners.

I teach 15 amazing students, mostly with varying degrees of autism and some cognitive disorders. I teach them life skills and help them with their reading needs. They go to five other teachers during the day after me.

Our situation is very frustration, with the economy the way it is and our school budget getting tighter and tighter the ability to get what seem like basic supplies is getting harder and harder. Our school has tried to replace the "on the wall" hand-crank pencil sharpeners, but apparently pencils and colored pencils are made out of a new material and they are not working. My students are struggling. Anxiety is a struggle for students with autism and the need for their tools to be functional is very important. My students struggle to understand why the schools replacement sharpeners aren't working, even though they are "new."

What we need are electric sharpeners that plug into the wall. The are more durable and can meet the needs of not only my 15 amazing students but the 300 other students that would have access to these sharpeners.

Your support would be greatly appreciated. If I could afford to buy the six sharpeners I would. My students work so hard to overcome their disabilities, I hate to let them down by not having the basic tools for learning readily available for them.
