My students need 2 digital cameras for the photography class at our Arts and Media high school.

Ask any photographer, famous or not, how their interest in photography started and they will tell you that someone stuck a camera in their hands at a young age and that was all they needed. I feel that this push will affect my students in the same way. Our arts high school is currently teaching grades 9-11 in a high-need community. Our school's population consists of both special education and general education students. This is the school's third year of existence and we have made it our mission to constantly integrate the arts and media into our academic curriculum. This year we started offering a Photography elective so that students can be exposed to the art of expressing themselves, their times and places, by capturing the visual world around them.

Being a new, small public arts high school, we struggle to provide all of the supplies needed for our students. While we have some basic point-and-shoot digital cameras, it would be nice to teach our students the fundamentals of photography using a camera with a Manual mode, such as the Nikon Coolpix. This ensures that they are not only learning about shutter speeds and apertures, but are creating some quality, high resolution photographs to display during our quarterly Night to Shine. (This is a night where students display their work for their friends and families from the previous grading period.)

I will need two Nikon Coolpix digital cameras so that my students can be exposed to a new way to express themselves and make sense of the world around them.
