Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I currently teach 11th and 9th grade in a large urban setting. This is also a Title 1 school and many of the students are first generation Americans.

My students are not aware of all the career possibilities available to them or of the new careers that have recently opened up because of technology. They need to have their horizons broadened to see what they could do in the future and what such a careen entails. It would also be helpful to them to know what careers are in demand at this time. Training involved and monetary expectations would also be something that would help guide their futures.

These Career World magazines would broaden my students ideas and give them exposure to a variety of possibilities for them. Having this resource in a print format would be a more concrete means for them to think about and dream about their future. Combining this with class discussions, Google searches and other means would help them select a career path that would be most appropriate for them in the economically difficult adult world they will be entering.

At present, my students do have exposure to some career speakers and some guidance councilor intervention but his is somewhat limiting. Your help with this subscription will round out possibilities for them and assist them in their choices.I do intend these mainly for my 11th grade classes, but would also use them to expose my 9th grade classes to future possibilities.
