Eager Early Readers Without A Classroom Library

My students need 43 books and a book display for an organized classroom library where they can go and select a book with comfort and ease.

I am a first grade teacher of 27 students. The school at which I work is an inner-city charter school that services students from poverty-stricken communities.

Currently, we do not have a classroom library. The books we do have are in baskets and are falling apart from not having a safe place to be stored. The few books we have are of little interest to the students. In addition, the students in our classroom do not attend the school library because there are too many students and not enough time for our librarian to meet with each class.

Our classroom needs a classroom library where students can select from a variety of books. The library needs to be a sturdy piece of furniture that allows for books to be stored in an organized manner. The library should also be designed for multiple students to select books at a time. In addition to the sturdy piece of furniture, the library will need to have a variety of books to put in it. If the students are given a variety of books to choose from, selecting a book will be more fun and easier to do.

Currently the students in our classroom are at a major disadvantage by not having a functioning classroom library with a large variety of books from which to choose. If you decide to take on our classroom project, you will be creating endless opportunities for the students in our classroom to read with comfort and ease.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
