My students need books for our Multicultural Studies class. The class was started 2 years ago with only 15 students, and has now grown into two classes with over 60+ students. The class focuses mostly on racial issues, but also deals with women's issues, religious toleration, sexual orientation and the development of these 9-12 graders' leadership skills.

I try to use different books and stories to focus the class discussion on tolerance and acceptance so my student's can better understand the world and people around them. We do not have a set text book for this class and trying to buy materials for this class has become expensive. The interest of the students in this topic has grown over the past few years.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is an excellent story to start this class and allow my students to look beyond race, gender, religion, etc.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is an easy read for my class which is a mix lower level and higher level learners. You can help my students grasp the importance of accepting people for who they are and not judge them by race, gender, etc.
