Our Kids: Our hardworking military families need your help! My classroom is a diverse second grade classroom in San Diego, California. These wonderful seven and eight year olds are all from military families. Many kids have a parent currently overseas (mostly in Iraq). As you can imagine, their lives are pretty stressful. Many are worried about a deployed mom or dad. Our school is primary low income and has limited financial resources.

The Situation: Our classroom / school has limited funds and very little technology. We do not have a computer lab and students have limited access to computers.

The Solution: We need a laptop computer for the students to use. This computer will have two primary functions: • First, we can connect it to our document camera so that all of the students will be able see a variety of computer programs and visit Internet sites as a whole class. You will be giving the whole class access to the Word Wide Web! This one piece of equipment will enrich them in science, math, social studies, current events... the list goes on and on. Science, math, and reading lessons will become so exciting as we visit the web together. Also, it will give them experience at reading / interpreting internet-sites which we all know an essential skill in today's quickly changing world. • The second use for this computer will be to allow individual students to use a variety of programs and web sites for learning. There are many math, science, and reading programs as well as interactive web sites that will help our students to learn. Many of these students do not use a computer at home and they will be thrilled to “play” on one at school.

You can make such a difference to our military kids and families. When I talk to our families their number one priority is that their kids are happy and successful in school while they are gone. Your donation of this computer will make a great difference in their lives. Your donation will inspire our class of enthusiastic young learners! You will be bringing a classroom of inquisitive, beautiful kids into a 20th century learning experience. Please provide us with this computer so we can experience the magic of the world wide web!
