Young Americans for A Change, facing change with integrity is the theme for this 6th grade class. After this year's election, my students are on a journey to the past, present and future on change in America.

Educating my students about change in a positive way with integrity is the main theme for teaching this unit in my classroom. This year's election inspired my students to think about how they would like to see change in the future, but to learn how change has happened in the past and how we will be affected by change in the present. In this unit, students will understand that when change is faced with integrity there is often a positive result. They will explore the risks that people have to take and maintain a sense of optimism, despite not knowing what the results may be. They will find that working together with others and having support helps us to make those changes in a positive way. My students will be asked to describe a time in their life when they were faced with change and how they handled it.

By keeping this theme in mind, students will need a variety of texts, including fiction and nonfiction, to discover what integrity looks like through characters' responses to life changes. The book by W. Bennett provides stories and poems from around the world that illustrate the values of responsibility, courage, and compassion. Students will create a power point presentation drawing upon what they have learned throughout the unit, highlighting the change and examples of integrity shown by the characters they have read about.

Your help will ensure that my students will face change with integrity by being hopeful, confident and making wise choices for the future.
