I teach Physical Education to approximately 600 students in grades K-6. Over the past 10 years the neighborhood has really changed and has become much more dependent on the school for physical and cultural activities.

Bringing together many cultures and age groups is a challenge. Many of my students are just learning English and aren't sure how to fit in. I propose using sports and activities to build community with new students and friends. By learning the basic skills of basketball, students will be gaining self confidence and making new friends.

Currently, I do not have a class set of basketballs in a youth size. Most of the balls the school has have been found around the school and neighborhood. I only need one ball for every student in a class. By having their own ball, students won't have to wait to play and have fun.

Your help will ensure my students gain needed self confidence and adjust to a new community. It will also allow them to develop eye-hand coordination to benefit them later in life.
