Let’s help my first grade students integrate 21st century technology into their classroom. Our district does not purchase technology other than computers for our elementary schools. Other technology is also needed to integrate technology into the curriculum. First grade students learn about jobs in their Social Studies class. Let’s give the students a fun and engaging lesson to learn about different jobs in their school. My students need an iPod classic and TuneTalk microphone to make this a 21st century lesson. First grade students might not be able to write like older students, but they can talk. They can work in small groups and interview the teachers and other workers in their school to see what they do in their daily jobs. They would be learning about some of their community workers in a more engaging and fun way. The portability of the iPod allows the students to be mobile. The students can take the iPod around the school building to interview classroom teachers, aides, the principal, office staff, cafeteria workers, janitor, nurse, gym teacher, music teacher, librarian, band teacher and even the mailman and bus driver. They will learn who works in their school building besides their classroom teacher. The interviews can be easily downloaded to their computer, a digital photo can be added and a podcast or movie of the interview can be easily created. Your help in funding this project will help students integrate 21st century technology in their Social Studies class. This project engages the student and makes learning fun.
