"I teach second grade in a low income, high needs, large urban area to second language learners.

My students do not have a lot of exposure to poetry, nor do they have the materials available to them to take ownership of the creative process involved in writing poetry. They love to hear poetry read to them, as well as doing their own reading. I would love to turn them into poets.

If the students each had their own journal and pencil set, as well as stencils to share, they would be excited about creating poetry as well as sharing their creations.

YOU can help me ensure that these students know the joy of creating and sharing poetry.

My students need journals, colored pencils, and stencils. The cost of this proposal is $341, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment ?."

Mrs. J. sent this note after the project was fully funded:

Jan 12, 2009
Dear DonorsChoose.org Team, Lynda and Chuck Kraemer, J, Eric, Glen, alex, Maura, Laurie, dietmar, Rev, Heather and Erin,
Thank you so very much for funding my project. My students will be thrilled to have their own materials when we do our poetry project. I know from experience that when students are provided with materials, they are more engaged in the projects at hand. I am confident that these children will be more invested in the project because they have all that they need to be successful. I am now even more excited about this year's Poetry Project and Slam.
I really appreciate your help.
