This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach second grade in a low income, high needs, large urban area to second language learners.
My students do not have a lot of exposure to poetry, nor do they have the materials available to them to take ownership of the creative process involved in writing poetry. They love to hear poetry read to them, as well as doing their own reading. I would love to turn them into poets.
If the students each had their own journal and pencil set, as well as stencils to share, they would be excited about creating poetry as well as sharing their creations.
YOU can help me ensure that these students know the joy of creating and sharing poetry.
