Knitting-It-Forward: Special Ed. Students Knit For Charity

My students need yarn and knitting needles to knit baby blankets, hats and scarfs for charity.

I am an Elementary Special Education teacher for a fantastic group of creative students.

Volunteering and contributing to the community is a major part of my life and a value that I aim to instill in my students. Since changing careers to become a teacher, I have had to rely on my talent, rather than finances, to give back to others. I have been knitting nearly my entire life. Each year I teach my students (yes all of them!) how to knit. Some pick it up with ease, while for others it becomes a lesson in overcoming frustration and perseverance.

As a class, we want to create a quilt, were each student knits a unique square and the final product will be donated to a needy child at a nearby hospital. We also want to knit hats for children enduring chemotherapy. We have the talent and desire to give; all we are missing is the yarn!

Giving to my students, will allow them to take what they have learned and give back to the community. Thank you for providing my students the materials that will set them on the path of giving.
