Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach gifted education at a school that is 65% free and reduced lunch students. We are a high need community with a large population of English Language Learners. Our school serves the fifth and grade students in our district.

My students produce a morning broadcast each day for their peers. The broadcast is completely student led. Our equipment (what we have of it) is very outdated. Our students would like to produce a fun, interesting, and informative broadcast that features segments, much like a network broadcast. Because of our lack of equipment, this is impossible. We do the best we can, but without the proper equipment, our broadcast is very elementary and not interesting at all.

My students need a portable computer that can be used to upload short clips shot in and around the school. These clips could be interviews, short commercials, or interesting things being done in the classroom by students and teachers. The computer would be used to edit and enhance the videos to make them more realistic.

Your gift will ensure that my students are better able to compete with other students in this digital society. My students are digital natives, they need to be challenged and pushed in order to keep with the outside world. You donation toward this computer for the student broadcast would bring my students one step closer to that goal.
