Out of the six Science classes I teach, one third grade class had shown a particular interest in energy conservation and alternative energy resources.

With the 52nd annual school Science Fair approaching, this class has unanimously decided their topic will be about alternative energy resources and/or energy conservation. With high interest in such an important global issue, I suggested an experiment to create model MagLev trains. These trains will mimic the "futuristic" trains being made in top technological countries around the world. My students are extremely excited for the Science Fair and thrilled to be involved in a project that brings awareness to energy conservation and alternative modes of transportation. Unfortunately, I have underestimated the cost of such materials.

In order to construct a MagLev track and several trains, my students will need about 100 ceramic magnets. This class is engaged and enthusiastic about this project. All they need now, are the supplies to bring it to life. Seeing young minds genuinely interested in the environment and ways to conserve energy is remarkable.

Each year, hundreds of parents, students, and community members attend the Science Fair. With your help, my class will be able to bring awareness to energy conservation and the future of transportation. Researching an issue that effects all Americans will hopefully leave a lasting impression on all who attend. These children are literally our future. It is the job of educators to make students aware of the environment and the impact we have upon it. It is my hope that these children become an active part of the generation that will end the energy crisis.
