The proud, exciting feeling of self-guided discovery is what motivates my students to continue learning. My 5th grade language arts students are a great bunch of students in need of a few good resources.

While our school is located in Mississippi, in what used to be a corn field, we are fortunate to have technology in our school. To research sujects, we could google, but what if the computers are down? I want my students to be able to use encyclopedias and almanacs to answer their questions just as easily as searching the internet. Without having encyclopedias in my classroom, the students will not receive daily practice..which we all know means..if you don't use it, you lose it!

I need a student set of encyclopedias and a few almanacs to provide the opportunity of self-guided learning and practice researching. The students will also get practice recognizing the keywords that should be used for not only internet searches but also print encyclopedias as well.

Please help me provide this opportunity for my students. The skills we will provide will benefit them for years to come. I do not want to teach reference skills so my students can pass a test, I want them to pass through life knowing they can solve problems, come up with new ideas, and research things on their own. Please help me provide this for my students.
