"Each morning I greet a group of students who come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Many of my students are struggling to cope with the multifaceted dilemmas of living in extreme poverty. Some of my students have experienced more than I can imagine in their short 12 years. Nearly all of my students are several years behind in math and science, failing to meet state standards. Yet, these students have so much to offer our classroom community. From the student that consistently strives for excellence in spite of his different learning abilities to the student that is able to make us all laugh, each of these students has unique qualities that I hope to develop in the coming year. It’s these students that motivate me to go to work each morning, compelling me with their stories and capturing my heart with their willingness to persevere amongst rampant injustices.

The students in my class are achieving anywhere from second to fifth grade and need the tools to help them understand sixth grade math concepts. My students love math games and will enthusiastically explore mathematical concepts if they are presented in the form of a game.

In our classroom we are working hard to "beat the numbers!" "What numbers?" you might ask. We are working hard to beat the daunting statistics that our students face. Nine-year-olds growing up in low-income communities are already three grade levels behind their peers in high-income communities. Half of them won't graduate from high school by the time they're 18. I invite you to join us in this struggle, to help give these 39 students growing up in a small rural town in Hawaii a fighting chance at success. I invite you to help empower these 39 amazing students to achieve their potential.

My students need materials for Lego education projects. Materials include items such as Legos and Lego education supplies. These materials are essential to differentiating learning, to meet the varied needs of my kinesthetic learners. In addition, my students love to play with Legos and will be excited to use them as a learning tool.

My students need 7 Lego sets to complete hands-on math and science investigations.

Dear clare, Emily, Karen, alice, Monica, Mrs&MrsJohanson, Ann, Ilsa, Skip a Lunch Foundation, Cindy, Chris and Anonymous Donors,

Thank you so much for your generous donation of the lego sets to my classroom.  Your contribution is essential to the success of our students and has created a sense of curiosity within my classroom.

Thanks to generous supporters like you, my students have a renewed sense of enthusiasm for learning.  Students are eagerly digging into mathematical concepts as they use legos to explore new ideas. The legos are especially valuable tools for my kinesthetic learners who enjoy learning with their hands.  Students are so excited to use the legos that they often choose to build during free time and after school.  Students are exuding delight and eagerness when they pull out the legos and start creating.

Your support is especially appreciated during these challenging economic times.  The Department of Education is facing large budget cuts and our supply money for next year is in jeopardy.  Your support made the myriad of learning opportunities created by using legos possible.  By giving to our keiki YOU help provide our community's children with learning opportunities essential to their success.  Mahalo nui loa for your contribution to my classroom!

With gratitude,
Ms. K.

Dear clare, Emily, Karen, alice, Monica, Mrs&MrsJohanson, Ann, Ilsa, Skip a Lunch Foundation, Cindy, Chris and Anonymous Donors,

I truly appreciate the collaborative effort to fund this project.  The students in my classroom will be especially excited to learn through the use of legos!  The majority of students I teach simply love legos and will be eager to delve into assignments that involve the use of legos.  My lessons will be enriched the materials you donated to my classroom.
By helping me create engaging learning experiences, you are giving my students more opportunities to succeed.  These fun learning materials will help my students master their learning objectives and learn sixth grade material.  You are giving my students a better chance at achieving their academic goals and having a brighter future.  Thank you for making these fun learning opportunities into a reality!

Mahalo nui loa!

With gratitude,
Ms. K.
