My students need 2 iPod classics to upload reading videos to help the Children's Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.

I teach high school video communications. My students have truly run with this project and have extended the project to local figures.

My sister works at Children's Hospital as a nurse. She asked me if I knew of any sites that she could download and print resources for math. A patients teacher didn't send any work for him. I happened to talk to my students about this conversation and they were amazed that the kids didn't have access to computers. We brainstormed some ways we could help out. The project idea flourished from just videoing in our classroom to woodshop making a rocking chair, the drama students reading, and creating a backdrop for our videos. We were able to have a few iPods donated but are in need of two more. After Hurricane Katrina, our budget got severely cut because our student population declined. Therefore, we are unable to purchase the needed equipment.

I am working with my video communications students on a community outreach video project for our local community's Children’s Hospital. The project is based on the premise of www.storylineonline.org, which is an online streaming video program that features members of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation reading aloud a variety of children’s books. The video communication students are responsible for compiling videos that will feature students reading aloud their favorite children’s books. The videos will then be uploaded onto video iPods to be donated to Children’s Hospital. After the donation of iPods, the students will continue to video for monthly uploading. We are in need of two more iPods, in order for each floor of the hospital to have one available for check out.

Your assistance will not only promote literacy, but also put smiles on the faces of sick children.
