Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach physics to 10th, 11th, and 12th graders in a high-need community. We are an urban charter school that focuses on a college prep curriculum for ALL its students. As a result I have the pleasure of teaching physics to all of the students in my school, most of whom would be excluded from physics at a traditional high school.

Although we have built a strong school community, as part of a young school the science department does not have all the traditional supplies that a well-established school would usually have.

In order to prepare my students for upcoming green jobs, I need some basic lab supplies related to electricity. These supplies will give my students the opportunity for hands-on learning. The hand crank generators that I have requested allow students to "be the battery" and give them a kinesthetic experience. This helps them to understand how electricity works as they do a variety of investigations.

Your help will make it possible for my students to learn about electricity and give them the skills they will need to succeed in the future green economy.
