This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello! I have been teaching at my school for six years. I started off as a bilingual teacher, and now I am ESL-Kindergarten teacher. My kindergarten students are very active, curious, fun and joyful. They are all English language learners from low income families.

To engage children in meaningful activities and introduce some of the "big jobs" of kindergarten we need to listen to stories, recite rhymes and songs, learn about the ABC's, and be on grade level for literacy skills. In order to achieve these we need to buy new equipment for our listening center. In September, I noticed that my old listening center was NOT working!! It is very hard to explain to my students why they can not listen stories and books on tapes with headsets in the listening center.

The listening center is a very popular site in kindergarten. It is a place for every student to learn English from children's audio books, nursery rhymes, songs, and fairy tales--the resources I am requesting. With limited resources and the malfunction of existing devices, our listening center can not be properly utilized. I am tired of borrowing and returning the listening center from different teachers, or telling my students that our listening center is "closed" today. That is why I am desperately seeking a listening center to help my students and my classroom.

With your help my classroom will be filled with happy kids who are eager to learn the English language. Please help make our dream come true!
