LCD Projector for Visual Learners of History+English

My students need a LCD projector to watch and present their documentary films to the community.

My students are bright and easily inspired when they find new ways to freely express themselves. Last year I encouraged my students to use technology to create a visual discussion of what it is they wanted to see in the world, and they did just that. I teach an elective called “Research, Action, Change”. In this class, the students learn to become sociologists. They decide on topics and formulate research questions around issues that they want to understand in their community. They become the experts on their topics. Last year students focused on issues from global warming, to domestic violence, immigration, homelessness, depression, violence in Boston, and the list goes on.

The next step involves them conducting interviews and creating documentaries about their topics and questions. It is an exciting process to witness! What our classroom really needs is an LCD projector to share the work. I have found and research shows, the use of technology in a classroom boosts literacy development. When working with technology (cameras, light and sound) seeing the work in progress is critical for keeping the students engaged.

My students love the work they accomplish once they see it! The problem is that there is one projector for 27+ classrooms!
