Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach second grade in a low income school with a population that is 50% Hispanic and 50% African American. The majority of our Hispanic children are English as a Second Language students.

My children are very interested in science. I feel it would really help their science lessons to be able to look at the things we study through a computer microscope. By having it attached to a laptop, they could use it whenever they find something they want to look at closely without having to bother one of the children using our two classroom computers.

This spring we will be studying life cycles. It would really enhance their lessons to be able to look at a caterpillar closely, take a picture of it, preserve it on the computer, and then write about it using the laptop. Imagine what they could write!

Children get excited about science, but then often lose that enthusiasm when it comes to writing about what they saw. Think about how this center would enhance their writing. It would give them new inspiration through what they see in the microscope and what they are able to record using the laptop.
