Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fifth grade teacher in an inner city elementary school. I teach language arts (reading) and American history to 42 fifth graders. I have been fortunate in securing the use of some technology in my classroom. My students are getting classroom lessons using a digital projector, a SmartBoard, and two class computers. They are smart students who are learning about the technology in our world. We use it for research in American history, language arts, and learning important computer skills.

Many of the students do not have access to the digital world at home. Most of my students have no Internet access at home. As their teacher, I have gone to many trainings and taken advantage of opportunities to secure technology for the class. As a result, I now have a laptop, a digital projector, a scanner, and knowledge of many database and Internet resources available to my students as they master those important skills that they will need in middle school next year. They love technology and are learning about important research skills as they explore the digital world.

I place a heavy emphasis on reading for research. Consequently, I am spending much of my time with them teaching the rules of citing sources and acceptable writing. I use the laptop daily in some manner. Yet time is lost everyday as I "set up" the student desk that is my current "caddy" for the multi-media equipment. I would love to have a laptop AV caddy as a place for securing the equipment as I present my lessons and work with the students during the school day and during tutoring. This cart would serve as the permanent location for the multimedia equipment. Since there are only two computers in the classroom, it would also serve as an extra resource for students who need help with computer tasks.

A laptop AV caddy would allow me greater opportunity to use the laptop during small group instruction since I'd be able to move it safely around the classroom. Imagine how important they will feel as I bring the station to them as we learn about using a laptop! You can make this happen for my students.
