Please Help Our Students Grow As READERS!

My students need 6 packs of post-it notes that are 3 in. by 3 in. and are in different colors.

Grades 6-8

I am a seventh grade teacher in a high-need community in urban Pennsylvania. The teachers at our school have to purchase a majority of the paper, pens, and supplies for our classrooms. 80% of our students read below grade level, and as a reading teacher and lead curriculum coordinator, it is my job and devotion to help move our kids up to read at a proficient or advanced level. Our school made AYP last year for the first time and we are working hard to make such important strides again this year. Again, because reading is my focus, I am convinced that our students must grow as readers in order to make AYP and also help our students achieve in their academic lives.

One reason we believe our students made such important gains in reading last year was due to our implementation of a new reading program. This reading program has each student actively engaging in texts by making notes and asking questions on sticky-notes as they read. This is a new and exciting method that has been proven to help struggling readers. I have seen first hand the amazing results that using sticky notes to document and reflect on your reading has with these kids. They love using this method, and their thinking becomes more apparent, clear, and Meta-cognitive. We have rolled out this same program this year, however, are struggling because we do not have the resources. I have already spend money on post-it's and cannot afford to spend anymore money, especially because we have to buy our own copy paper and other supplies.

I am asking for enough post-it packs to supply our reading program for rest of the school year. These post-it's allow the students to document and organize their thoughts as they read. They are an imperative tool for our reading program because it helps struggling readers improve their thinking, comprehension, and analytical abilities. This method of reading strategy instruction (using post-it's) is a newer method that many educators are adopting because of its success. Research has proven that this method is effective, yet the post-it's are a necessary resource for the program's implementation.

Your help and generosity through this donation will help push our struggling readers up towards reading on-grade level. You will make it possible for my students to fully participate in an important reading initiative.
