Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach a mixed grade level course of 9th and 10th grade students in Global Studies and Cultural Geography. The school itself is a charter high school in an extremely high poverty area of California, but we have made considerable gains over the past several years in academic achievement and continue to work toward achieving educational equity.

My students reside in a high-poverty community, but they are extremely resilient and need the opportunity to express themselves and display their knowledge using the latest interactive technology. My students find it difficult to engage in a traditional "status quo" classroom environment, but an interactive response system would allow my students to participate on an entirely new and entertaining level that will no doubt improve their collective outlook on the learning process.

Specifically, our class needs at least 12 audience response/voting remotes. My students will benefit on social and academic levels as a result of the immediate implementation of valuable, yet unique, technology that will foster further participation. Students do not relate to study guides or monotonous teacher/lecture based instruction. Rather, my students need to be engaged in the learning experience! The electronic remotes would allow my students to take an active role in their own learning experience, while showcasing their knowledge and skills while reviewing for exams with interesting and informative review games and surveys.

You have a chance to contribute to the attainment of educational equity amongst a high poverty community of students who are eager to learn but find themselves disengaged from the curriculum.
