My students need kits to grow butterfies, slime mold and venus fly traps.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. R.'s classroom raised $347
This project is fully funded
I teach low-performing high school students who struggle with basic literacy. Many of my kids in my class have failed their previous science classes.
They've been placed in a slowed-down course to give them two semesters instead of one to prepare for the state test which they MUST pass to graduate.
My students do not reflect the diversity of the school they attend. I have more students of color (68% Black students in a school that is 29% black overall) and more students who receive free and reduced lunch - 40% of my students come from lower income families.
My students need hands-on experiences. Many of them have never grown plants. Many of them have never seen mushrooms that weren't in a can of soup. I want to give them a few examples of living things to connect some science learning to while having fun.
The ability to scientifically experience cloning and growing venus fly traps from tissue culture allows us to create a way to get excited about doing the learning about plants we need to do. We'll also grow some slime mold, and some butterflies to allow them to make some comparisons and contrasts between the different kingdoms of living things.
This would allow us to create an absolutely unforgettable experience for these students.
Help me help them learn to love Biology!
