Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the librarian at Alta Vista Montessori Magnet School. Our school has about 500 students, 198 of whom are Pre-K or Kindergarten. A majority of our students are economically disadvantaged.

Most of our students are from low income families. Story time is so important to these little ones. For some, school is the first place they have seen a book or had someone read to them.

A story time rug creates an instant mood and expectation -- we're going to share something special in this place. Most of the library is geared toward older students, but a rug creates a warm area for the little ones that is just for them. The bright train rug that I am requesting provides a spot for each child and livens up the space with color and pictures.

My goal is to make the library a comfortable and enjoyable place for our youngest students. I want them to associate the library with warmth and fun, a place where they want to spend time and learn. Your donation toward a train rug will assist in me in making their first exposure to stories and reading a positive one. Thank you for your generosity.
