Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach third grade in a high poverty school. I have 29 students to whom I teach all subjects. Many of my bilingual students have trouble grasping concepts because the vocabulary is complicated.

What has worked best to reach my students are hands on activities that engage all the senses and make concepts more tangible. Science has ALWAYS sparked my students' interest, however because of the size of my class, it is often difficult to supply them with all the materials needed for hands-on activities.

Food chains and Life Cycles--One of the most important science topics covered in my third grade curriculum is also one of the most high-interest. An incubator, a brooder, and a food chains kit will allow me to expose my students to all the wonders and delights of truly learning about life. I would like to turn this unit on life cycles and food chains into an EXPERIENCE my students will remember for many years to come. If we were able to bring these resources into my classroom, my students would participate in 12 different HANDS-ON activities including: *growing plants *building terrariums *dissecting owl pellets *participating in food chain simulation games *actively observing the life-cycle of a chicken *observing anoles AND MORE!
