Project Runway Comes to Hood! Students Excited By Fashion.

My students need 1 Singer electronic sewing machine.

Young adults NEED to be able to express themselves and what better way to flex their creative muscles than through their clothes? My school is located in a high need area. The school itself is a new school, coming on to the educational scene only a few years ago through the New Visions iniative. Though is has had its share of trials and turmoil, the school continues to grow and really tries to meet students at their needs. The school's curriculum is arts based; students take classes in dance, drama, and vocals. The hallways are constantly filled with budding soprano voices, pattering ballet-slippered feet, and emotional Shakespearean monologues.

But what about our fashionistas? I am a new teacher at the school and within the first week, students approached me to be the head of the school's fashion club (because of my obvious fashion expertise:>) The students felt that though there were many avenues for them to perform, they had no outlet in which to get behind the scenes and create. Students wanted to design, whether it be clothes, jewelry, or accessories. But they cried out for guidance because they had no idea where to start.

The first thing I want to do to help them is teach them the principles of design and help them to actually watch their creations come to life. This can all be made possible with just one sewing machine. Students will be able to design their clothes and accessories and then actually make them. The students are ecstatic about the possibility of their own fashion show and would be elated to see their very own designs on their very own runway!

Your donations would help my students' dreams come true. I believe that if I can help them realize their vision, I can open up new avenues to them. Together, we can introduce new options for college, new career goals, and better life choices for these inner city students. My students definitely have the drive, the focus, and the creativity.
