Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I want my students to develop a love of science. I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income community.

In this time of high stakes testing, much emphasis is placed upon language arts and math. However, I feel that it is important for students to have a well-rounded education. I've done this activity with students in my classroom in years prior. It was amazing to me how excited they would become when they found a particular bone. My girls, many who were squeamish at the onset, were proud to locate and identify the bones of various animals.

I would love to have a classroom set of owl pellets for my students to dissect. This is a wonderful activity for budding scientific minds. They can learn about the food chain and the skeletal system through this engaging exercise.

With the economy as it stands right now the schools in our area are seeing substantial budget cuts. That trickles down the line to the classroom. As a result, our supply budget has been drastically cut. So much already comes out of my pocket I can not possibly purchase these kits that I feel are so important for my students. Please help the next generation love science as much as you do.
