Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is located in a high-need community. Most of our families live in poverty and about 64% of our population are English language learners.

Our school is heading into the 21st century with an emphasis on technology. Thanks to generous funding from several local foundations, we have equipped our first through fifth grade classrooms with sustainable classroom equipment (Promethean ActivBoards and projectors, document cameras, and sound systems). Our teachers are enthusiastically changing the way they deliver instruction and engage students using these new technology tools.

With this new technology come new resources that extend the use of the equipment. The ActivWand is one of these add on components that can enhance the use of the ActivBoard. Students usually use a pen to interact on the ActivBoard. However the ActivWand enables students to easily move objects around and interact with the flip-chart lesson. The wand design allows for easier gripping and manipulation, especially by kindergarten and first grade students. The ActivWand adds another piece to student engagement.

The addition of 5 ActivWands would be an exciting way to further engage our students using the ActivBoard. They are very developmentally appropriate for younger children but can be used by all! Even older students like the "magic" of the ActivWand. Thank you for consideration of this request!
