I teach Physical Education to students in grades K-4. Our school is currently a Title I school with over 70% of our children receiving free or reduced price lunch.

Last year I was able to find another group that let us borrow their bowling lanes for a couple of weeks to teach bowling to our students for the first time ever at our school. The kids absolutely fell in love with it, and have been asking about it ever since. My department is currently in a situation where we only get $250 per year to buy any new equipment or replace old and worn out equipment. With the few fund-raisers my school has, any money goes towards general ed needs or adding to our playground. Since bowling is considered one of the lifetime sports, and with the growing obesity rate in today's youth, I want to capitalize on the excitement that the bowling unit started for us last year.

This request will be for the first part of my overall bowling unit needs. This will bring in the first three bowling lanes that we will not only use for our bowling unit, but that we will also use to start Family Bowling Nights at our school a few times a year. These lanes not only simulate a real bowling lane, but it also has an approach trainer built in so the students can learn proper footwork. We are only requesting the lanes at this time, as we already have some bowling pins to use, and we will need to get the correct ball from another company. This project will not only allow me to continue to build on our early successes with bowling during Physical Education, but it will also allow us to bring parents into the building to experience a fun and free night out with their children, which allows us to strengthen the bond between home and school.

Your contribution will not only help students learn more about bowling in general, but it will also give children the skills to stay fit and physically active for the rest of their lives. It will also allow us to reach out to the families in our community that may not be able to experience this type of activity without the help of our school.
