Experiencing learning by doing is the best way to teach science! My classroom is a science lab. Hands-on and minds-on activities engaging students in science discovery are provided to approximately 700 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. (This proposal includes my students in fifth grade).

Students in fifth grade participate in many hands-on/minds-on activities in my science lab classroom. Science concepts found in our North Carolina Standard Course of Study are the focus for instruction and the spring-board for enrichment activities beyond the standard curriculum. Many times, concepts (such as Newton's Laws of Physics and Galileo's experiments with gravity) are difficult to demonstrate and/or impossible to experience by doing!

Gizmos provides activities which allow students to simulate experiments impossible to replicate in the classroom. Utilizing this simulation technology gives the teacher a new tool in providing experience to better teach concepts that may be difficult to understand.

Last year, I was able to get a one-month trial access to Gizmos. I found that for the experiments/concepts which are impossible to replicate, gizmos provided a super, realistic approach to learning through simulation. Students understood difficult concepts by accomplishing labs by simulation. What a valuable way to utilize technology in the science lab classroom!
