Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a New York City high school science teacher. My school is quite diverse, both economically as well as racially. Students academic abilities range from special needs to honors and college caliber.

The current push in education is for there to be more students centered activities based on technology. Unfortunately, there is almost no money in the budget for technology or technological supplies. Those supplies that are in the building must be shared by up to 6 teachers.

So I am asking for your help to get the technology I need for my students. Speakers that actually project to the back of the classroom, so that when we watch a movie all of the students can hear what is said!! A cart with a lock to protect the projector and speakers!! And CD-ROM lab activities that can help students to see what science is like in a real lab!! To help them have a more fulfilling lab experience!! With these Cd's the students will act as virtual lab techs - analyzing blood samples, examining tissue cultures, testing factors that effect the rate of photosynthesis and respiration and attempting to match blood donors with recipients. These are real life applications of topics we cover in class. There is no better way to show students how the content they are forced to learn relates to their lives.

With your help we can make the learning experience more relevant to the time in which my students live. You will can help to create a learning environment that is both exciting and educational!!
